Steve Miller Dumuzid, Dumuzi or Tammuz God Spinner Ring GRI2482
Dumuzid, Dumuzi or Tammuz is an ancient Mesopotamian deity known to the Sumerians as “Dumuzid the Shepherd.” Dumuzid was the first and primary consort of the goddess Inanna (Ishtar). Dumuzid was associated with agriculture, herdsmen, and shepherds. People from Mesopotamia and the Levant associated Dumuzid with the season of spring, when lands were fertile and abundant. However, it was believed during the summer months with lands being dry and barren that Dumuzid had died.
In midsummer, during the month of Dumuzid, people across Sumer would mourn his passing into underworld (Kur). This spinner ring consists of different variations of Dumuzid, Dumuzi or Tammuz in the logo-syllabric script known as Cuneiform from Mesopotamia.
